Macmillan Cancer Support improves the lives of people affected by Cancer
Sherborne and District Citizens Advice Bureau has a dedicated Macmillan Specialist Adviser, Kathy Sayers, who is here to offer advice to people who are affected by cancer.
When you or your family are affected by cancer you want to know there is always someone you can turn to for help and advice. Having and living with cancer can be expensive in ways you have never expected with costs you have not considered. There may also be other factors that need addressing and getting help and advice as soon as possible can help ease the burden at this difficult time.
Kathy is here to offer advice on a range of Welfare Benefits and other financial support available through the Macmillan charity. If you are or have been affected by cancer your finances probably won't be your first consideration. However many people find a cancer diagnosis can bring money worries with extra costs that have not previously been considered. Specialist advice is available to ease these concerns including information on specific Welfare Benefits, Tax Credits, grants and loans. Also if there are any other issues for which you would like advice she will obtain the necessary advice or information for you.
Macmillan Grants
A Macmillan grant is a one off payment for adults, young people or children with cancer, to cover a wide range of practical needs. This can include things such as heating bills, extra clothing, or a much needed break. Every week over 400 people receive a grant from Macmillan Cancer Support. Grants are also given for items to that help people with cancer continue with the activities they enjoy, e.g. a grant was given to a man with cancer of the larynx to help pay for a special swimming device so that he could still enjoy swimming after his operation.
